Future media service delivery in a metered world

This story needs more attention – it’s a big deal about how future services are delivered in a metered world. http://gigaom.com/video/comcast-xbox-faq-update

Its a good idea, lol and something i proposed with a project in another world a long time ago ....sniff  :(  but how its going to be seen here in the USA is the interesting part.

Is it not breaking net neutrality rules.....or is it a duck?

OneGoldenSquare yet another IP-TV application

I was reading this press release
http://onegoldensquare.com/2012/03/absolute-radio-announce-samsung-smart-tv-convergence-app-for-android/

I'm kind of curious though, how are Samsung/OneGoldenSquare handling payments to the RIAA/other various international copyright bodies?

Are they tracking ip address location and correlating via a tracking mechanism?
or
Are they only allowing activation of this feature in certain countries where they have licenses already paid for?

Anyone have any thoughts?

Why Internet TV's will always be losing the battle against "Living room devices"

I keep seeing people talkign about Internet Tv's and they will eb the wave of the future taking over from Roku/Home Media PC's etc.

I cant stress this enough these seperate boxes will always have an advantage over "Internet tv's" in that they can be replaced on a regular basis every 1-2 years or so fairly cheaply; The average time for a TV replacement 4-5 years..... you do the math.

The CPU/smarts should ALWAYS be a seperate device to the TV...yes even if its an Apple TV.

Badgeville "Gamification Webinar"

This is a link the to “Badgeville Gamification webinar” I watchedn yesterday.

The stats on the Mint.com users is staggering (and being married to a Mint.com user I see no reason to disagree with them).

Keep in mind though that badgeville didn’t design the mint elements…their example is a little lamer so I’m still looking for the reason why Mint.com “works” so well.

If you are a Mint.com user why do you think people love it so much?

Angry Birds Vs QR codes

i was reading a linked in comment http://www.linkedin.com/groups/When-can-we-stop-adding-1814763.S.96510528?qid=d6fea56b-c677-46b5-9ee1-f44138139a71&trk=group_most_recent_rich-0-b-ttl&goback=%2Egde_1814763_member_96510528%2Egmr_1814763 and realised people still just don't get it.

One of the commenters posted that the reason QR codes aren't getting traction in western markets is "that QR readers don't come installed on any carriers handsets by default".

Wrong, wrong, wrong.

Last time I checked Angry Birds doesn't come installed by default on any carriers handsets and they seem to be doing just fine.

At the end of the day it simply comes down to call to action and the shitty job most marketers do. Give people enough of a reason to scan a QR code and they will THIS is what's lacking with western QR enabled marketing 'campaigns.

If George Lois did a QR campaign you would bet it wouldn’t suck J.

Scan gets a $1.7m investment

Been reading a lot in the press over the last few days that http://www.scan.me/ have received $1.7m seed round.
http://www.pehub.com/137238/qr-code-company-scan-raises-1-7m-seed-round/
http://vator.tv/news/2012-02-23-scan-gets-17m-to-make-qr-codes-ubiquitous-and-easy
http://www.fiercemobilecontent.com/story/scan-lands-17m-expand-qr-code-interactions/2012-02-23
http://techcrunch.com/2012/02/23/scan-gets-1-7m-from-google-ventures-and-shervin-pishevar-to-make-qr-codes-actually-useful/

Someone want to tell CRV etc that they did their dough and that the real future of QR codes are in direct QR codes rather than the indirect codes that Scan are using.
Indirect codes dont allow you to change QR management application vendors after they are published.

ie. imagine building a website then being told if you ever moved from GoDaddy as a registrar you had to build a new website.

Indirect = fail.

SecondMarket.com "After" Facebook goes public

Was just reading this article about plans for http://www.secondmarket.com/ "after" Facebook went public.
http://www.betabeat.com/2012/02/03/secondmarket-facebook-ipo-barry-silbert-02032012/

I just wanted to mention something not covered here that i only just learnt a few weeks ago; I had no idea that the CEO of a "Startup" has to agree etc to be on SecondMarket and just because i'm a developer who has some shares to sell...doesnt mean i can sell them on SecondMarket.

Not something i'd seen widely mentioned before.
